New Jersey gaming regulators have sanctioned gambling on Emmys and the Oscars in 2019. Could a federal or state election be next?
Speaking to reporters after his keynote speech at the Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas on Tuesday, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said he does not see why not.
The NJ Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) gave NJ sportsbooks that the all-clear to take wagers on the 2019 Oscars ahead of the February event. NJ sportsbooks published Oscars chances, making them the regulated US sports gambling operators to take bets.
The DGE gave NJ sportsbooks. However, it isn’t a guarantee that Oscars gambling will return in 2020 elections betting.
No more US gaming regulator has ever sanctioned gambling online elections. However, election has been happening in the united kingdom.
Based on this, Christie said there is no reason it can’t happen in the legal and controlled betting markets at home. Especially considering it is already happening from the black market.
“You have seen (election betting) go on in Great Britain for quite a while,” he explained. “I don’t find the reason why, again, if the authorities feel that they can manage it in a way that’s appropriate, people are doing this stuff anyway.
However, is gambling on the elections something the DGE would allow? Before another site or DraftKings Sportsbook can offer those odds, the DGE must approve the occasion. This is similar to what authorities did before Oscars chances were to the board before this season.
In February, bets on the Oscars were just available at a NJ sports betting websites. There have been fluctuations in the categories allowed or contained in the betting.
In addition, a huge swing at the Oscars chances for the best Director just before the awards show??elevated eyebrows at the gambling community. The concern resulted in only the favourite, Alfonso Cuaron, to win the Oscar.
The DGE reported that it wasn’t going to perpetrate betting on the Oscars. 2019 wasalso, in its own way, a trial run.
Christie functioned from 2010 to 2018 as NJ’s governor.?? He’s been widely lauded for his character in New Jersey’s successful effort to overturn the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA).
Before this season, Christie was inducted into the Sports Betting Hall of Fame based on his attempts. He has become a vocal proponent of sport.
In 2015,” Christie announced his intent to seek the Republican nomination from the 2016 election. He dropped out of the race February 2016 and endorsed President Donald Trump. Trump’s transition planning staff was headed by christie.
He abandoned the sheriff’s office at the end of the next semester after reaching the state. The authorized NJ sports marketplace launched only five weeks later.
