Despite producing one of the most unlikely birdies of the year during the final round, george Coetzee fell short in his title challenge in the Open de France.
Coetzee allow a advantage slip over the final six holes to finish the week at third place, having made a charge up the leaderboard in unlikely fashion at the par-five ninth.
The South Africans tee finished left of the fairway and just inches away from the danger, leaving Coetzee having to remove his trousers and sneakers to wade in the water to perform with his chance.
Coetzee was able to acquire a position in the water to create a clear connection and deliver the ball up the fairway, but missed the green with his third shot to leave himself confronting a tough up and down to save par.
The European Tour winner had other ideas though, chipping into the first of three birdies at a four-hole elongate to place stress.
