As they came from behind to defeat Rotherham 2-1 in the Keepmoat Stadium, ben Whiteman’s late penalty secured a thrilling victory from the South Yorkshire derby for Doncaster.
The Millers had been sent by on-loan Jake Hastie to the break a goal up but veteran James Coppinger equalised earlier skipper Whiteman struck from 12 metres two minutes from time as Darren Moore’s guys turned the match on its head.
After a cagey opening, littered with niggly fouls, Millers defender Michael Ihiekwe narrowly headed Ben Wiles’ corner broad, but they were ahead after 37 minutes.
Kazaiah Sterling gave some foolish foul on Wiles off 25 metres from on-loan and goal Hastie whipped in a left-footed free-kick that spanned over everybody and overcome the unsighted Ian Lawlor.
Just former Miller Jon Taylor headed the cross of Alfie May before Ben Sheaf’s volley from just outside the box was brilliantly saved by Lewis Price.
This bout of pressure led using sub Niall Ennis’ job by the byline resulting in a cross which was met first time by Coppinger, who placed enough on his shot to conquer Price.
Using all the Rotherham keeper conserving from Reece James Price was then analyzed by taylor from distance.
Ennis attracted before the sub that was on-loan won another save from Price.
Whiteman sent Price the way from the spot as Doncaster claimed the rights rights.
