At the start of the calendar year, OVER bets were cashing at a ridiculous rate. That tendency has been curved — challenging. Goals scored per match went from well over six to 5.30 — a number that’s actually the cheapest since 2003. If you got ahead of the slump and started betting UNDERs, it is probably paid serious bucks as just eight groups of 30 have cashed more OVERs than they’ve UNDERs.
Here’s a look at the five best OVER teams along with the five finest UNDER teams in the NHL:
Best OVER teams
It’s starting to become more challenging to find good places to wager on the OVER with goals starting to come way down but the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers simply keep burning out light bulbs and providing puck lovers like me hope that one day everyone wants hockey. For now, they’re the only teams that have cashed OVERs in more than 60 percent of their games and everything is terrible.
Luck would have it that these teams play this afternoon against one another and the complete in the time of composing was 5.5. The Rangers and Flyers have combined for an O/U listing of 22-12 in games in which the total has shut in that amount. This game is screaming for targets and that I will be taking advantage of some total props today.Best UNDER teams
As I mentioned in my opener, the tide has turned for complete bettors and 20 of the 30 NHL teams have posted more UNDERs than OVERs. This is a trend that has been fantastic for sportbooks and probably not so great for your bankroll with all the public cash generally coming in on the side of this OVER.
With that in mind, let us look at some teams which have been keeping the puck out of the net and that have been making responsible, forward-thinking bettors cash — hand over fist.
No. 1 on the list is the San Jose Sharks, who were far and away the best team in the league to bet totals on. If you’d wager the UNDER in each Sharks game this year, you would have lost your money just twice in 20 bets and cashed a gain 15 times. The California Fish are among the soundest defensive clubs in the league but haven’t quite figured out their offense and also have one of the lowest levels in five-on-five goals scored.
San Jose began the season with an O/U listing of 1-10 and has since gotten a total of 5.5 just after. Bookmakers have adjusted but can’t set totals low enough to the Sharks right today.
