“It’s great seeing D.K. [Metcalf] make his plays. I believe D.K. is looking really, really special,” Wilson said Wednesday during minicamp, through the group’s official website. “He can do anything and everything and he is tremendous.”
Per his modus operandi, Wilson cooed about all the Seahawks’ receivers but provided specific praise to the newcomer. The quarterback said that while Metcalf owns freakish athleticism — conducting a 4.33-yard 40-yard dash and flashing a 40.5-inch vertical at 6-foot-4, 229 pounds — it is the wideout’s psychological acumen that impressed him so far.
“His understanding of the game first,” Wilson stated. “Everybody knows about the ability to run and leap and catch and all that. But I think more than anything else, it is his brain he processes information it is understood by him. He’s really intelligent, he understands the game well. He takes coaching he gets work. He’s a wide receiver that is legit. He is everything everyone was talking about in relation to what he’s capable of and more”
Following Doug Baldwin’s retirement, the Seahawks need a heady playmaker to glow opposite Tyler Lockett. Seattle is currently gambling on Metcalf growing in that role, and thus way through offseason workouts, the rookie has impressed. We’ll see if this trend continues when the pads come on in July.
