Anthony Joshua has been welcomed to spar with Jermaine Franklin as the US contender has’similarities’ says promoter Dmitriy Salita.
Britain’s heavyweight star is preparing for his rematch with Ruiz Jr at Saudi Arabia on December 7, live on Sky Sports Box Office, along with societal media suggested he is sparring with American potential Timothy Moten.
Promoter Salita showed Franklin almost combined Joshua in camp ahead of last season’s world title defence against Alexander Povetkin, however, the Michigan man may answer the telephone later stretching his unbeaten record to 20 victories last weekend to mirror Ruiz Jr.
Salita told Sky Sports:”Jermaine Franklin is the very most effective American heavyweight competition and even though he is just 25-years-old, he’s one of the most impressive competition resumes of the top prospects.
“He’s a few similarities to Ruiz with a long and successful amateur career which has influence on his personality since they are both athletic with fast hands.
“Jermaine was offered to train Joshua for its Povetkin struggle, but scheduling did not work out because of him. We were not offered the opportunity for this one, but it could be a terrific experience to train with Anthony Joshua, among the best and most outstanding heavyweights from the branch.”
Joshua’s staff were working hard to deliver in heavyweights when Ruiz Jr stepped in as a replacement competitor after trainings for his world title fight were disrupted for sparring.
Promoter Eddie Hearn explained:”Sparring is something we have been operating at. First time around we just had four weeks, and 3 weeks of sparring. Guys were discovered by us but probably not the guys we desired.
“Now the sparring is top class. He is focused and looking fantastic. Fourteen days to go.”
Derek Chisora recently revealed that he provided his services as a sparring partner ahead of his big domestic conflict with David Price on the Regis Prograis-Josh Taylor bill on October 26, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
“Sparring, yes,” Chisora said. “He’s tall, I’m short!
“I’m going to see him weekly. He’s asked me a few times before but I’ve been too busy”
