England scrum-half Ben Youngs claims that he needs something special from his World Cup after the disappointments of 2011 and 2015.
Youngs is among four survivors, together with centre forwards Dan Cole and Manu Tuilagi and Courtney Lawes, from the squad that travelled to New Zealand.
Controversies beset england since they failed to escape the group phases, went out from the quarter-finals in 2011.
Youngs stated:”Neither of these was the outcome I wanted.
“I think anyone would like to look back at the end of their livelihood and feel pleased with success – along with also the World Cup is always the pinnacle.
“This chance here on this side is just about the best shot I have of being able to return at a period of my career and say, yeahthat was something really special.”
Youngs was 22 when he left his World Cup debut in New Zealand scoring the important attempt in Dunedin as England squeezed in their first group match past Argentina.
But they struggled from there on, an team night out in Queenstown creating Tuilagi and a storm .
Their defeat by a France team that had lost to underdogs Tonga resulted in the resignation of head coach Martin Johnson and three separate reports to what had gone wrong at exactly what the RFU’s director of elite rugby, Rob Andrew, afterwards called”the World Cup from hell”.
Youngs told BBC Radio 5 Live:”I am proud of this fact I’ve been to two World Cups earlier – I am proud of 2011 in that I had been there, and at 2015 representing England in a home World Cup, which was an accomplishment in itself.
“Every experience is different. They all teach you something. And the experience from 2011 was making sure you send on that and then also stay focused on the pitch.
“There were lots of distractions going on in that tournament which didn’t allow us to provide.
“World Cups are odd things, and that I don’t have the magic formula – it is sport, it happens. It happened to us.
“I can sit here and say I’m determined it will not happen again, but I can not assure it.
“But it is what constitutes that matters – about this class currently under Eddie Jones. There are several men who played in 2011 and 2015 who did not get another opportunity at a World Cup.”
Their campaign opens against Tonga in Sapporo on Sunday.
The Pacific islanders have been thumped on 92-7 by New Zealand at a warm-up match this season , conceding 14 attempts.
However, Youngs – the number nine in history – is conscious of the threat they may pose in the championship.
“When you play with Tonga and Samoa and South Africa, you realize they are regarded as the most physical teams, plus they seldom neglect,” he explained.
“We have got to create sure physically we’re up to the challenge – they’re likely to have a good deal of impression through how they take the ball and the way they tackle.
“They’re big men, so we have to be smart about how we take the ball and that channels we return – they surely will not give us any room around the ruck or obtaining momentum around there.
“You have to be individual. Everything you have to avoid is falling right into the trap of fool’s gold area, in which you change it early and see what you believe is distance or an chance, and they get cover there.
“There is no hiding – you must get through a group first before it is possible to make the space out wide.
“They can lure out you and then, boom, they close it down and then go extremely hard at the breakdown and make it very hard for you.”
