Pep Guardiola Claims Raheem Sterling has not yet reached the level of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Sterling has started the new season in spectacular form, scoring eight goals in seven games for England and Manchester City.
England manager Gareth Southgate believes the 24-year-old has got the capacity to overtake Ronaldo and Messi and become the very best footballer on the planet.
Guardiola has urged those comparisons to be ignored by Sterling.
“Hopefully he can’t read a lot of listen to such sort of things, it would be good for him,” explained Guardiola, ahead of Saturday’s trip to Norwich – live on Sky Sports.
“nobody can compare Cristiano [Ronaldo] and [Lionel] Messi.”
Sterling scored one and set up as England beat on Kosovo 5-3 on Saturday in St Mary’s.
The former Liverpool winger has managed six goals in as many games for England in 2019 and Guardiola is very happy to see his player shine on the international stage.
“I’m so pleased with what he’s been performing because we’ve been together,” said Guardiola.
“Everything that has happened to him is good because he has an unbelievable work ethic and he is an incredibly nice guy.
“Every time that I understand the situation is going well, not just with us, but by means of the national team, his nation, I am thrilled.”
