New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees claims surgery on his thumb injury was a complete success and is expected to miss.
As the Seahawks seem to keep their best start since their Super Bowl championship season, the Saints are starting a stretch of games with no quarterback Brees with the visit.
Teddy Bridgewater is forecast to begin for New Orleans in place of Brees, however Saints coach Sean Payton has yet to officially name a beginner.
Brees’ injury – a ligament in his casting principle, last week, sustained in a 27-9 reduction at the Los Angeles Rams – begs the obvious question of if the Saints have been designed to withstand the NFL’s all time top passer’s absence.
“We’re getting prepared to find out,” Saints boss Payton said when asked that question.
Bridgewater completed 17 of 30 passes for 165 yards after replacement Brees.
The Saints hope when he earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2015 before a severe knee injury he was set by the preseason back, that he can recapture again.
“We’ve got 53 individuals on our team. Drew is a enormous part of that,” New Orleans defensive end Cameron Jordan explained.
“You can’t replace Drew, however at precisely exactly the same time we don’t know precisely what Teddy brings to the table. It’s been [over] two years since he has had a complete Pro Bowl year that he had over in Minnesota.
“At this point, I can not tell you if we can defy without Drew.”
Payton wouldn’t confirm whether Bridgewater would start, rather indicating that Taysom Hill can be in the combination.
Hill has recently replaced Brees on event at quarterback, especially when Payton belongs with a run-pass option also plays with a variety of positions on offense and special teams.
Brees’ absence was not.
Their offensive line was beaten and the group rushed for just 57 yards on 20 carries. New Orleans were penalised 11 days for 87 yards.
The Seahawks also want to cut down on their penalties. They have been penalised 18 times, such as 10 for 93 from the Pittsburgh Steelers a week.
Should they continue to play close games, having beaten the Cincinnati Bengals and prevailing at Pittsburgh by two, the rash of fines can prove costly.
“Our hands’ve to get cleaner,” coach Pete Carroll said. “That is just being cluttered with their hands, and we have to perform better. We’re not there yet, we’re not on it.
“Our conscience is not right about it, and it is my hope that this hit hard enough this week. I hope that the lessons are powerful enough that we can make an impression.
“We’ve got to do it. We’re a team that is third-down that is fantastic.
“Everything , we stink, and that’s likely to continue to be hard and those happen because of sacks or due to penalties and we are becoming third and fifteens and materials. We must clean that up.”
Meanwhile, the Seahawks do not have any quarterback concerns as they were led by Russell Wilson to their first 2-0 start since their championship season in 2013.
Wilson used his arm and his legs at Pittsburgh to a 28-26 victory that was key a week after Seattle started with a one-point win against Cincinnati.
He completed 29 of 35 passes for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns. He spanned three times to keep alive a hard disk drive that have the of this match.
“It’s tough to imagine that someone will continue getting better when you are in year eight,” Carroll advised SeattlePI.com. “How can that happen? But it is. We are watching it.”
