The National Hockey League All-Star Game (French: Match des ??toiles de la Ligue Nationale de Hockey) is an exhibition hockey baseball game that’s traditionally held during the normal period of the National Hockey League (NHL), with lots of the League’s star players playing against each other. Each group plays with four players. The Game’s proceeds benefit the retirement fund of the players.
The NHL All-Star Game, held in late January or early February, marks the emblematic halfway point from the regular season, although not the mathematical halfway point which, for many seasons, is usually a couple of months earlier. Since 2007, it’s held in late January.From 1947 to 1968, the All-Star Game primarily saw the preceding season’s Stanley Cup champions choose a team of All-Stars from another clubs. There were two exceptions during this period: The 1951 and 1952 games instead featured two teams of All-Star players, one comprising players on American-based teams and another with players consisting of players on Canadian-based teams.
Beginning in 1969, the arrangement was geographical with all the Wales/Eastern Conference All-Stars playing the Campbell/Western Conference All-Stars, in which the”first team”, or starting line, such as the starting goaltender, voted by fans, while the rest of the teams’ rosters are chosen from the NHL’s Hockey Operations Department in consultation with the groups’ general managers. Since 1996, the head coaches to the two All-Star teams have been the coaches of the two teams which are leading their individual conferences in point percent (i.e. percent of points obtained from total possible points). The All-Star Game is preceded by the NHL All-Star Skills Contest, a contest showing the various talents of the all-stars. Beginning in 2007, the All-Star weekend also featured the NHL YoungStars Game, an exhibition match exclusively featuring rookies,[6] playing under slightly modified rules. In 2011 this game was removed in favor of having the rookies compete in the skills competition.
