The roller coaster that is online West Virginia sports betting continued throughout the past couple of weeks. Media reports Wednesday, however, noted that FanDuel Sportsbook WV and DraftKings Sportsbook WV can go into the WV sports gambling market after next week.
The report provided bettors in the state some much-needed excellent news. In the event the platforms enter the current market, it would indicate the first cellular choice since BetLucky went defunct in March.
Back in April, three mobile sports gambling apps received approval by the West Virginia Lottery to operate from the state:
It seems like two of them may enter the industry soon.
Legal Sports Report reported following 14, the DraftKings could introduction in WV. WV MetroNews reported FanDuel looks promising to start next week too.
“I will say we’re getting really close,” nation lottery manager John Myers told WV MetroNews on Wednesday.
“Testing is performed on a single and continuing on another. I really don’t have a formal roll-out date ”
Myers said he believes that online gaming must be offered by Aug. 31, the beginning of college soccer in West Virginia. And not to mention, the NFL season will get underway a week after.
Myers continued:
“We’ve wanted to see this up and running as much as anybody. I know there is some concern that it has taken some time but if you do some thing for your time you have to dot the I’s and cross the t’s. Now we think we are there.”
Soccer has become the most popular betting season and the marketplace could have hurt. Missing the 2019 kickoff may be expensive in terms of revenue for WV casinos and the state.
On Aug. 16, Myers informed PlayWV that regulators were getting close to final approval on a few sports betting apps being examined. He said the Wire Act had been an problem and operators were still working to comply with state regulations.
“There is not any holdup in the country side. They have been told by the lottery how a system needs to be set up because 2018. A few of our control solutions suppliers originally provided a system that didn’t fulfill those requirements along with the lottery refused approval of those according to the necessities of the Federal Wire Act.”
The federal government appealed a judge’s opinion announcing that the Wire Act only applies to Sports gambling. It seems these problems have been worked through by the state.
Bettors from the Mountain State will be prepared for the virtual wagering windows to start. But many can take a wait and see approach.
As of this moment, there are three retail sportsbook options for WV bettors as the opening match of the WVU football season procedures.
The country has seen this situation play out earlier. That never came into fruition, although A launching was rumored just two months ago.
This came after the BetLucky app was shut down in March. The operator of Mardis Gras Sportsbook and Wheeling Island Sportsbook casinos, delaware North, coupled with Miomni on this platform.
Following a legal dispute involving a software firm named EnterG, the operation unraveled. Miomni and delaware North are currently in court.
On Wednesday, Legal Sports Report detailed how things went sour in the venture. Miomni is now battling in 1 lawsuit from the UK on two continents — in court together using facing and EnterG a second with Delaware North in the usa.
“A pricing dispute produced a rift between EnterG and Miomni that finally left DNG [Delaware North] with no option for sports gambling, effectively shuttering WV sports betting at March,” the report notes.
“Miomni never obtained the intellectual property that it sought, and EnterG all but disappeared from the radar. Now it is up to the courts to determine who’s at fault and parties own that pieces of the puzzle”
Beyond the legal entanglement, the dissolution led to the shutdown of their Mardi Gras and Wheeling Island sportsbooks. That has led to an even smaller sports betting market.
With the news of the arrival of FanDuel and DraftKings, that may change soon. Tons of West Virginia bettors will be keeping their fingers crossed.
