Bianca Andreescu caused misery for Serena Williams in her pursuit of an 24th crown that was big and acquired her maiden Grand Slam title.
The 19-year-old Canadian defeated the six-time winner 6-3 7-5 as Williams suffered her fourth Grand Slam defeat because the arrival of her first child at September 2017 to celebrate a memorable major draw debut at Flushing Meadows.
Andreescu recovered from a Williams comeback in the second place along with a fall in form to become the first Canadian – male or female – to win a Grand Slam singles title in the Open Era.
